So, I had a really bad day at work on Thursday.
At 6:15 people were UNpatiently waiting at the door.
We don't open until 6:30, please quit tapping on the door, it's not time yet!
The opener and I got off to a busy start. We were busy but coping, then the prep cook came around a corner with two cups of coffee and crashed into me! Did you guess that the HOT coffee spilled all over the front of my shirt?
Oh, yes it did! Too busy to stop working, I saturated it with water.
Now the whole front of my shirt is sopping wet. Close eyes, take a deep breath and repeat, "vacation". Back out to my customers, it's too busy to worry about the soggy front of my shirt. Wonder where the 7:30 server is (she didn't know that her starting time had been changed from 8:30 to 7:30) and hurry on to the next table. Finally the 8:00 server starts, but it only helps a little. the restaurant is full! Think "vacation" and keep moving.
Smile because my shirt is drying and is not stained dark brown from the coffee! Go to my new table with a cheery hi, welcome and get met by the raised hand meaning "be quiet, I'm on the phone" ...put on the really big smile and loudly ask about beverages. She apologises' for interrupting the phone call to whoever she's talking too. Turning to me, she orders in a very put out mood. Then talks on the phone and picks at her meal for the next hour.
She ignores my questions (taste all right? more coffee? anything else?)
and then leaves without tipping. HOW RUDE. Say to self, "vacation".
Luckily, the nice customers out number the rude ones!
Get through the rest of the day and I'm outta here!
I'll be in touch after I get back from paradise.....
Big sigh and repeat "VACATION!"

there is nothing like being given the hand...
happy vacation!
I cannot stand when people stay on their phones when you're trying to give them customer service! I used to work at Bath and Body Works and got it all the time. What happened to common decency?
I love reading your blog. You are so descriptive and give such an awesome story. I hope you are printing these out. Hope your vacations was good.
